THANKSGIVING and JOY

When I had published Small Joys Tag with 15 day to day small things which bring me joy, Sujata had mentioned a few small things which bring her joy. I had realised that those things brought me joy too but I hadn’t mentioned those: I had to list 15 things only and my list was hundreds! But more significantly: I think of many such joys with gratefulness. I am grateful for πŸ’― things everyday πŸ™

And this realisation made me think: how closely related Joy is to our feeling of Gratitude. Once we become grateful for every circumstance, every situation, every happening in our life: we shall always be joyous and at peace. And that this gratitude should not be kept only for big and momentous happenings of our lives, but should be expressed in our day to day blessings. We take so many of our blessings for granted, as our birthright!

Always be Grateful to everyone, everything and every circumstance. That’s what our Holy Books say too:

Every living entity, especially persons in the human race, must feel grateful for the benedictions offered by the grace of the Supreme Lord β€” Srimad Bhagavatam 3.19.36

If you give thanks, I will give you more; but if you are thankless, My punishment is dire β€” Quran 14:7

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christβ€” Thessalonians 5:16-18

  1. very true:) the moment we are grateful for every experience and we are open to learn from it, it makes it so hard to be sorrowful. Joy is in being present and finding meaning in every moment of our lives:)

  2. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones.

β€œThe heart that gives thanks is a happy one, for we cannot feel thankful and unhappy at the same time.” β€” Douglas Wood

  3. Thank you so much Ambika. Toronto must be divine with fall colours; or has it started to snow?

    Stay safe. Stay grateful 😊

  4. Ashok, what a lovely reminder. Thanksgiving has always been one of my favourite holidays precisely because of the gratitude part. Also surprised to see that you mentioned the Srimad Bhagavatam as it’s definitely one of the lesser known known spiritual texts.

P.S. – loved the fall colours! Happy writing πŸ™‚

  23. Thank you, Ashok, for the poignant post and such a beautiful photo of the fall in Canada. Thank you, also for being so inclusive, as it can be only one God, called by different names. Every morning I say thank you for being alive another day, especially in the difficult and uncertain times we have now. Gratitude is the most important as it leads to kindness, compassion, and humility. Thank you again.

  26. Loved the quotes. There is always a reminder how alike, the preachings are, although many choose to ignore them due to their preconceived notions.

  27. Lovely post as always Ashok Uncle.πŸ’–πŸ˜Š We indeed should be grateful and happy for whatever we have, it may appear small (and it perhaps would at every step of our life even though how much we have) but we should think of those who doesn’t even have that. As my mother says always look upto those who are below you and never upto those who are above and as such your eyes and your proud will be grounded. May lord always bless us all and you keep sharing and spreading kindness and happiness. πŸ€—πŸ’–
