Fearlessness doesnโ€™t mean Recklessness

Some months back, in the beginning of lockdown, I wrote two posts: Fear to Faith I- what the stars tell and Fear to Faith II – What to do!

Chapter XVI of Holy Geeta, describes 26 Qualities of the Soul. And the very first is: Fearlessness: The foundation of spiritual life: having faith in God’s protection, justice, wisdom, mercy, love and omnipresence.

Bible – Job 3:25For the thing that I fear comes upon me, and what I dread, befalls me (English Standard Version)

Covid -19 is still active and many countries in Europe are reporting surge in numbers, and have announced further periods of lockdown. We do need to move from fear to faith, but unfortunately many confuse Fearlessness with Recklessness ๐Ÿ˜›

Pic is a forward.

I keep witnessing or hearing about two kinds of extremes: First kind have thrown all caution to the wind and have become reckless. Second kind refuses to leave even their rooms!

Middle path is always the best way. That is the Buddha way.

Let us move from fear to faith but still use God given common sense, and keep taking common sense measures.

Let us be Cautiously Courageous. Let us be Fearless without being Reckless. Not only during this time, but always!!

Stay safe. Stay courageous. Stay joyous ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒน

THANKSGIVING and JOY

When I had published Small Joys Tag with 15 day to day small things which bring me joy, Sujata had mentioned a few small things which bring her joy. I had realised that those things brought me joy too but I hadnโ€™t mentioned those: I had to list 15 things only and my list was hundreds! But more significantly: I think of many such joys with gratefulness. I am grateful for ๐Ÿ’ฏ things everyday ๐Ÿ™

And this realisation made me think: how closely related Joy is to our feeling of Gratitude. Once we become grateful for every circumstance, every situation, every happening in our life: we shall always be joyous and at peace. And that this gratitude should not be kept only for big and momentous happenings of our lives, but should be expressed in our day to day blessings. We take so many of our blessings for granted, as our birthright!

Always be Grateful to everyone, everything and every circumstance. That’s what our Holy Books say too:

Every living entity, especially persons in the human race, must feel grateful for the benedictions offered by the grace of the Supreme Lord โ€” Srimad Bhagavatam 3.19.36

If you give thanks, I will give you more; but if you are thankless, My punishment is dire โ€” Quran 14:7

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is Godโ€™s will for you in Jesus Christโ€” Thessalonians 5:16-18

HAPPY THANKSGIVING โ€” It is Thanksgiving time in Canada!! Being thankful to God all the time would always keep us happy ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ˜Š

Thank you so much for your continued support, encouragement and love ๐Ÿ’• ๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ™

Stay happy. Stay grateful. Stay loved ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿค—๐Ÿ’–

Life, Death and Corona

15th July was the death anniversary of Naseem. May her soul rest in peace. (Do read my last yearโ€™s post : Naseem is no More)

Naseemโ€™s death looks like it was only yesterday. In fact it looks like she is still around. Her sweet smile is so real in my heart.

COVID has been around for a while and I have been at home for 4 months now. So much has happened and nothing has happened! Journey has all been within. And it has been some journey! This period has been God sent for me – I am more alive and am more aware than I ever was!

Why has COVID created so much fear? Is sickness and death something new? Donโ€™t thousands of people die all over the world everyday even otherwise?

Naseem died so very young. My wife died young. A dear nephew of mine died young. My parents lived well into their 90s and they were together for 71 years! And this despite the trauma and heartburn of partition. A sister of mine has lived most of her married life in and out of hospitals and in a couple of years she would celebrate her 60th wedding anniversary- God willing ๐Ÿ™

That is life and we know so little about it! Some die young and some die old. Some lead happy, healthy and joyous lives and some are born sick.

Many cultures, societies and even some religions believe that we have no control over life and death. The moment we are born the date and time and how we shall die is fixed. So why are we so afraid of Corona?

I believe only those are afraid to die who have never really lived. Those who truly live are never afraid of death. And only those who lack faith are the ones who fear death more. Death remains the only certainty in this uncertain world, but why die everyday!

Corona has saved thousands of deaths by road accidents alone in my city and my country due to lockdown. Must be so in other countries too. I believe the person whose time has come is going to go. The cause could be an accident, normal flu, any other disease or Corona.

We should and we must take common sense measures but not be afraid of Corona.

We should and must make lifestyle changes and build our immunity but not be afraid of death.

We must think about death and make friends with it rather than not understand it and be afraid of it.

Whole of life is cyclic. Nothing lasts. Life and death are two sides of the same coin. And it is only death that really gives meaning to life. If there was no death would life have any meaning at all! We should rather embrace life than be fearful of death.

Donโ€™t take life so seriously my friend. It is just a dream๐Ÿ˜ธ

I eat when I am hungry. I drink when I am thirsty. I sleep when I am sleepy. And if heavens donโ€™t fall I will surely live till I die ๐Ÿคก

Reality Show we call Life ๐Ÿคก

  • Oh yes, Life is just a Reality Show. It is a play, a movie, an act … whatever … but it is not real. It is THE BIGGEST REALITY SHOW ever made. It could also be called THE GRANDEST ILLUSION ๐Ÿ˜‡
  • Truman Show:

This was a Jim Carey movie and is the story of an insurance salesman, who discovers his entire life is actually a television show and that even members of his family are mere actors!!

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loTIzXAS7v4

I saw this movie more than two decades back and it resonated so well with my thoughts. I loved it. What a concept! The whole city was a set for this life long reality show. At one stage Truman (JC) finds out about the show and tries to escape but is unsuccessful. He then confronts the director, who tells him about his dream about this immense reality show. The whole world is glued to their TVs to see what will Truman do the next day.

He opens his front door as usual, comes out and says Good Morninggggg ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ˜Š

Life my friend, is a reality show only. I have no doubt in my mind. It is not real. But it is so well made that it looks very real. Oh the reality of unreality!!

    Life is like a Movie

Life could also be compared to a movie. We know movies aren’t real. Movies are movies ๐Ÿ˜Š But someone has produced it, directed it; edited it and we are watching it. In a way it is real. Life, like a movie, is real and unreal at the same time.

Our lives are a work in progress. Life events are happening and shall keep happening. At the same time whatever has to happen has already happened. It wouldn’t have happened, it couldn’t have happened if the Cosmic Creator Director hadn’t already created it in His thoughts. We are a finished product or WIP – All a perspective. Never real.

  • I had talked about the software of God which creates our life story in Life is a Cocktail ๐Ÿท๐Ÿท๐Ÿท That is the plot or the story of the interactive reality show, we call life.
  • At some time or the other all of us have felt the unreality of life. The holiday we took a couple of years back looks like a dream. That surprise meeting with the person of your dreams; did it really happen? Does not the utter unreality and at times the utter uselessness of all action strike all of us at some time or the other?

We do keep getting glimpses of this play but are too scared to probe it further. We get scared of what life will be like if the life as we knew it is not real! The fear of the unknown keeps us trapped in this endless drama, this never ending cycle of pain and suffering; with some happiness and pleasure thrown in to keep the act going.

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and their entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts, his acts being seven ages.

    William Shakespeare

If we start to become aware of this play, this drama, we start enjoying it. Worry and tension go out and we get filled with joy and laughter.

Ultimately good or bad; hero or villain, rich or poor, beautiful or uglyโ€ฆ..it is all maya, an illusion, a play โ€ฆ.never realโ€ฆ..

Paramahansa Yogananda had said,โ€ When you die, you are going to say; Thank God it was a dream!โ€ Same as we get up from a bad dream and say : Thank God it was a dream!! It has happened with me quite a few times during this lockdown period !!

“It doesnโ€™t matter whether we scrub floors, or whether we are leaders of great nations; unless we know that we are merely playing a part on the stage of time, we will suffer from the dualities inherent in the consciousness of being identified with these different stations and conditions. Stage actors do not bemoan their particular parts, but enact their roles to the best of their ability, knowing they are temporary portrayals. Do you see? It is only when we take life too seriously that we suffer.” Paramahansa Yogananda

So many times I think I should walk away from all this : this dream, this show, this endless drama of life; and then I get up in the morning and like Jim Carey, say :

    GOOD MORNING WORLD ๐Ÿ˜‚

And the show goes on ….

    *******

I am reposting some of my old posts as I feel they are relevant in current situation we are all in. It helps me in regaining my own perspective! You may like to read a more detailed post of last year : Life is a Reality Show

    End of the World

Yes it is the end of the world — as we knew it pre COVID – 19

A BRAVE NEW WORLD IS RISING:

A world that is filled with love and joy.

A world that is filled with compassion and kindness and understanding.

A world filled with faith, hope and courage.

A Brave New World. A world without boundaries. A world held together and ruled with LOVE ๐Ÿ’•

    Corona to Compassion

    A Hindu by birth

    But today if

    My religion be asked,

I would say it is compassion

    It is being kind

    And being humane!

    And if I be asked

    Do you believe in God?

    Of yes,

    With all my mind,

    With all my being,

    With all my heart!

    My God is Love

    There is nothing but Love

And Love is all that we need to have!

    So let us be Kind

    Let us be Compassionate and

    Let us be Humane!

    Let us Pray and

    Let us Serve

    And make a conscious choice today;

    To shift our thoughts

    from Fear to Faith,

    from Corona to Compassion

Fear to Faith – Part II: How to Live in these Times

Chapter XVI of Holy Geeta, describes 26 Qualities of the Soul. And the very first is:

Fearlessness: The foundation of spiritual life: having faith in God’s protection, justice, wisdom, mercy, love and omnipresence.

Bible – Job 3:25For the thing that I fear comes upon me, and what I dread befalls me (English Standard Version)

Some days back I had come across a beautiful story about Lord Krishna (when he was young lad and his elder brother Balram)

The story goes like this: Krishna and Balram were walking through the forests to reach somewhere, when the night fell. The silver moon filtered through the leaves and the wind blew with all its might. They decided it was best to rest till the crack of the dawn. While one would sleep, the other would watch over for wild beasts; and they would take turns. Balram insisted that Krishna rest and he would play guard. Balram was smiling to himself as he watched krishna sleep when he suddenly heard a sound!

Startled, he looked around and saw a demon about his height watching him with hungry eyes. Balram was scared and with a quiver in his voice, he asked,

    โ€œWho are you ?โ€

    The demon laughed and said,

“I am the size of your Fear!โ€

As he was saying this, he started growing bigger. Indeed, Balram was petrified. The more afraid he was, the more the demon kept growing. The more the demon grew, the more panicked Balram became. The demon was now towering โ€“ almost three times Balramโ€™s size and he couldnโ€™t take it anymore. Screaming, โ€œKrishna!โ€ he fainted.

Krishna woke up and saw Balram next to him. Assuming he was asleep, and it was now his time to watch out, Krishna reached out for his flute and was about to start playing it, when he saw the demon. The demon watched him with hungry eyes. Krishna watched him without much interest. Unable to take such apathy, the demon said,

    โ€œDonโ€™t you know who I am?โ€

Krishna said, nonchalantly, โ€œLooks like you are going to tell me, in any case!โ€ The demon said, โ€œI am the size of your fear!โ€ Krishna laughed. And the demon started to shrink! The more Krishna chuckled to himself, the tinier and tinier the demon became, until it was the size of a miniature doll. Krishna picked him up and put him in the bag to show Balram.

The next morning when Balram woke up, he told Krishna, โ€œKrishna, Krishna, thank God we are safe! You have no clue what happened to me last night while you were sleeping. A humongous demon came and told me he was the size of my fear!โ€

Krishna with a smile upon his lotus lips, removed the doll from his bag and asked, โ€œIs this the demon?โ€

Balram was confused and said, โ€œYes โ€“ it looks like him. But he was huge. How did he become so tiny!โ€

Krishna said, โ€œHe looked so huge because he was able to scare you. He was the size of your fear! I couldnโ€™t help but laugh when he tried to scare me, and he kept shrinking. He would have disappeared, but I wanted to show him to you โ€“ hence I have kept him!โ€

    ******

Just the way the room can not be dark and lit at the same time, Faith and Fear cannot co-exist They are the diametrically opposite view of our perceived reality.

The problem with most of us is that we have faith but there are specks of doubt. And our faith is strong when the going is good! It starts to waiver at the first encounter with suffering, at the mere thought of suffering for our near and dear ones!

Considering the current situation, we are facing โ€“ What we can do is:

    1) Stop reading and seeing round the clock information/news. Every time we read a word it creates a molecular/cellular shift in our body. Audio and Videos create even more havoc. Awareness is a must โ€“ and this awareness can be gained from a reliable institute/Website. TV and Newspapers thrive on negativity. They lower our immunity.

    2) Strengthen your immune system: With positive thoughts; with a relaxed mind, enough sleep, by being in sunshine, eating healthy food – whether it is fruits and juices, salads, veges, sprouts and nuts โ€“ build your immune system. And continue to do so๐Ÿ˜Š

Being with a loving and caring family and friends is the highest immune builder. Great time to get closer to them and to understand them and to help them.

    3) Just the right time for your indoor hobbies and passions – Reading, Dancing, Music, Panting, Writing – all are wonderful ways to keep the mind in a state of peace and calm. Above all meditate. It keeps mind still and brings peace.

Introspect. It is a God sent opportunity to Pause and Reflect and to Pray; To make lifestyle changes.

    4) Deepen your faith. Take common sense measures but have more faith. Meditation is the best way to deepen our faith.

    5) Laugh : Above all don’t take life so seriously. It is just a Reality Show ๐Ÿ˜‡

Laughter is injurious to Disease ๐Ÿ˜‚

Affirm often : I and my family are Happy, Healthy and Whole. Our lives are filled with Love, Joy and Laughter. I wish the same for all.

The whole of our journey of life, my friend is: to move from Fear to Faith. The kind of faith a child has in his parents. When a child is walking, holding a parents hand, he has no care in the world. Whole of the world may be falling apart but the child walks on merrily. That is the kind of faith we need to have in our Heavenly Father and Divine Mother; whatever be your belief.

Fear to Faith Part I (Do read it if not done earlier. I think it will help you)

PS: I haven’t left home for more than a month now and our terrace faces east. I have been able to witness and experience some truly divine skies – mostly mornings but a few evenings too. Stillness speaks ๐Ÿ’•

Fear to Faith – Part I; What do the Moon and the Stars say โ™‘๏ธโ™’๏ธโ™Š๏ธ in our Current World Lockdown Situation

(Pic of YSS Ranchi Ashram (taken on 10th April evening) which was established by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1917 in Ranchi, India)

One good thing with current lockdown situation is that the sky is so clear and beautiful ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ’•

I have been getting up rather early, and a little south of east, I can see Jupiter, Saturn and Mars in a beautiful arch; in and around the constellation of Capricorn. I love the sky and the stars. I am not an astrologer, but I do believe in astrology (did study it for a while in my younger days ๐Ÿ˜Š) Unfortunately my iPhone is not able to capture this divinely beautiful and still dawn.

A few days back a niece of mine from Guatemala (Blanca, this post is for you๐Ÿค—) asked me, if I know anything about moon and its effect on the current world situation. I started to put my thoughts together for her but then decided to share it with you all๐Ÿ˜Š

MOON does effect our lives TREMENDOUSLY. And so do all the stars and planets and their movement.

High tides and low tides are caused by the moon. The moon’s gravitational pull generates something called the tidal force. The tidal force causes Earthโ€”and its waterโ€”to bulge out on the side closest to the moon and the side farthest from the moon. These bulges of water are high tides.

    Pic from internet

About 71% of the Earth’s surface is covered by water and 29% of Earth’s surface is land. And our bodies too are predominately water ๐Ÿ˜‡

According to H.H. Mitchell, Journal of Biological Chemistry 158, the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%.

And if moon can cause tides in mighty oceans, just imagine what it can and do to our bodies, which are predominantly WATER

I understand that planet Mars would move to Aquarius โ™’๏ธ from Capricorn on the 5th of May; and God willing this would bring some relief.

Difficult times/ Challenges all over the world had started with Lunar Eclipse on the 10th of January in Capricorn โ™‘๏ธ and this phase would end on the 4-5th of June : the next Lunar Eclipse in Gemini โ™Š๏ธ

This is not the last of the year though; there is one more lunar eclipse on 29-30th November; Followed by a Total Solar Eclipse on the 14th of December. That I feel should be the end of this current difficult period.

I Pray, and I Hope, and I Believe that : The current virus situation would end on the 23rd of September, when Rahu leaves Mercury.

We shall all breathe a huge sigh of relief and would be grateful that God has heard our prayers. But would that mean the end of our problems? Doesn’t look like. Rahu enters Taurus โ™‰๏ธ on the 23rd of September and next 18 months would be very challenging for Indian subcontinent.

At times like these our innate soul qualities of goodness and compassion and kindness come out. They always do: in all natural disasters! And now we are all in it together and our interconnectedness is more perceptible at this time.

But when we go back to our earlier normal world: Once again our competitive spirit would take over and our goodness and compassion would get pushed down (not for all and not the same intensity – as all of us are uniquely different!) So those would be, I would say, even tougher times in a very subtle way. And they will last till about end of next year.

Pic of sunrise on 1st April from our terrace. No filters used.

These were and are: difficult times, astrologically, and not only Corona! For most countries for most people : Financial, Health, Relationships – anything and everything.

Do read my blog post of 15th January : Living in Todayโ€™s World beset with Turmoil.

Paramahansa Yogananda, author of The Autobiography of a Yogi, has said that astrology is scientific but not easily understood. And that we have the power, we have the consciousness to transcend and mitigate the effect of the planetary movements.

We do not go through difficulties or good times because we were born at a particular time in a particular place; but we were born in that particular time and place because of our past karma ( had discussed it in a little more detail in my last year’s post : Life is a Cocktail) Whatever is happening in our lives: Good, bad or ugly; is our own creation – individual as well as mass karma, cause and effect.

Paramahansa Yogananda had also said that we are in a period of transition to a higher age; and he foresaw (decades back) that in the course of this transition, we would pass through some challenging times.

But he emphasized that those difficulties can be mitigated, and will ultimately be overcome, by the efforts of all who strive to think of God and to express His goodness in their lives.

Pic I took last year of Mother Center in LA of Self Realisation Fellowship establishes by Paramahansa Yogananda in 1920

God is Love; His plan for creation can be rooted only in love….Every saint who has penetrated to the core of Reality has testified that a divine universal plan exists and that it is beautiful and full of joy.

So let us go forward with courage and cooperate with that divine plan by using constructively the power of our thoughts and the will to help ourselves and others, and to Pray for all, because that is the Highest we can do.

In doing so we will not only hasten our own soul’s evolution but contribute toward the positive change that is gradually taking place all over the world.

God is Love and Love is all there is ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’•

Meditation/Faith/Pray: Cure for all human suffering – Any day any time.

Fear and Faith can’t co-exist. Let us deepen and strengthen our faith ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™

    Let us be cautiously courageous!

But whatever you do or whatever your beliefs : Don’t take life so seriously! It is just a Reality Show!

Seriously – we know so little ๐Ÿ˜‡ Keep it simple – Just be happy and spread happiness ๐Ÿ˜Š

Statutory Warning: Laughing in Injurious to all Disease ๐Ÿ˜‚ and it is Contagious ๐Ÿ˜‚

    United in Fear

    Am so happy

    To see us all

    Standing United!

    Families and Friends,

    Communities and Nations,

    Of the World

    At large!

    Yes, I am happy

    At the same time sad;

    That we stand

    UNITED in FEAR

    And shall soon scatter

    And depart!

    So sad but true

    Just wait and watch;

    For we have more Fear

    And much less

    Faith and Love

    In our Hearts!

    A day will come

    Maybe in times

    Distant and far;

    When we shall

    STAND UNITED

    But never again

    Scatter and Depart !

    For then we

    Shall be together,

    Once again;

    Not in Fear but LOVE,

    For One and ALL!

    It was a dark night

It was a dark dark night

    There wasnโ€™t there even

    A flicker of light.

It was such a sad night

    Even my soul did cry

    There was sadness

    There was gloom

    I paced around the room

    I lied down too

    And I tossed

    And I turned

    Still there was no peace

    And there was no light

It was such a dark night.

A night in which even my

    But it was a cry

    Of compassion

    A cry sad but kind

    Because it could see

    The suffering of my mind.

    And then the night

    Turned cold

    And I shivered

    And I cried

    I was so lost

And when it all looked lost

    I heard a voice

    It was a voice

    It was filled

I am always there with you

I have never left your side.

I have made you in My image
